Cruïlla Barcelona, The Many Music Festival
What do Iggy Pop, The Specials, M.I.A., Gogol Bordello, Sharon Jones, 2ManyDJs, or Quimi Portet have in common?
A festival of many types of music is coming to Barcelona. After all the indie at Primavera and those who are still getting their strength back from Sònar, Cruïlla is offering something special and different. If you’re in Barcelona this weekend, don’t hesitate to come along at the Parc del Fòrum. Last year we enjoyed artists such as Jack Johnson, Fat Freddys Drop or Lee “Scratch” Perry among others. A curious cocktail that did not in the least disappoint.
This year’s repertoire of artists is sure to get us moving. For younger people, it will be a good opportunity to discover one of the greatest punk rock legends: Iggy Pop. He’s here as usual with The Stooges to give another one of his shows full of energy.
On Friday 7, we will be able to discover first hand one of the revelations of this season’s hip hop: Nneka. We want to highlight Gogol Bordello, a band that is clear in its objectives. The band is a unique blend of Balkan music and punk and their concerts are an amazing wild party. The first day will go on with a wide variety of Catalan artists such as the Tiki Phantoms, the soul cocktail of the Pepper Pots, or rumba with La Pegatina.
There’s more in store for Saturday. M.I.A.‘s only performance in Spain will be in no other than Cruïlla. This multidisciplinary artist began a career in film experimenting with design and art, only to later stir the music scene with her first singles Sunshowers or Galang, which were all well acclaimed by international critics. Her sound, somewhere between hip hop, rap and electronica, never ceases to amaze. And if you like hip hop, here comes round two! Later on the same day, legendary Cypress Hill will be playing, “Insane In The Brain!”.
It will be a day full of black music to get you moving. A day with ska music by The Specials, the unique and always splendid Sharon Jones and the superb Leonard Cohen of Jamaican music: Mr Linton Kwesi Johnson. There will also be Spanish bands such as Quimi Portet or Mendetz. And to top it all off, a special closing session by 2ManyDjs. The best you can get.
