Blind Dates, Music & Live Art
The MACBA has invited five contemporary artists to give a new use to the Arena space created 15 years ago by American artist Rita McBride.
In 1997 Rita McBride created Arena, a 4×4 metre modular tribune that over the years has been exhibited in numerous venues. Arena has been a stage for more than a hundred artists, poets, writers, architects, musicians, politicians, and commissioners who have been invited to participate in events.
As part of the exhibition “Oferta pública / Public Tender”, the MACBA has invited a number of artists to participate in the Blind Dates cycle to find a new use for the space during the four months that the exhibition will be on until it comes to an end on September 20.
Tamara Kuselman, Laia Estruch, Jordi Ferreiro, Ryan Rivadeneyra, and Miguel Noguera will be the guests at the Arena tribune. Until now we have been able to see the work of Kuselman exploring the boundaries between reality and fiction, and Estruch’s “Jingle”, a performance that mixes music and work process. These are the upcoming events that Blind Date offers in Arena:
August, during Museum opening hours — Jordi Ferreiro.
His works make diverse audiences partipate in the final configuration of the works, which often take on the form of guided tours, workshops, participatory happenings, hyperfiction and role-playing games with real action.
Wednesday, September 19 at 20:00 — Ryan Rivadeneyra.
Through the idea of synesthesia and the correlation between the senses he tells us about about the links between installation, performance and literature in contemporary art.
Thursday, September 20 at 20:00 — Miguel Noguera.
The artist presents a selection of ideas from his Ultrashow and his books that relate to ramps, stairs and all kinds of accidents and physical mechanisms.
