Postcards from El Raval
"Consuelo Bautista. Raval". Photographer Consuelo takes on a tour throuh the renowned Barcelona neighborhood.
Consuelo Bautista is one of the great current Catalan photojournalists. We take it that her years of experience and vast knowledge of Barcelona were reason enough for the Photographic Archive of Barcelona (AFB) to commission her 4 years ago, in 2008, photos of one of the most picturesque and multicultural neighbourhoods in Barcelona: El Raval.
Consuelo was free to take on the project as she saw fit, so she went on and put one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city through her lens. The resulting exhibition, “Consuelo Bautista.Raval” is now open. It consists of 53 snapshots that gather day-to-day life in this landmark neighbuorhood. It’s an intimate look at the people who live there or those who are just passing by the fun, touristy and multicultural Raval.
The exhibition also features the sound installation “El carrer de l’Hospital”, which is essential to understand Consuelo’s works in Barcelona. The exhibition also includes a selection of 30 photographs of El Raval taken by different authors between 1870 and 2004 which are part of the AFB’s archives.
The exhibition will be on at the AFB until January 26, 2013.
