“Marni at H&M” by Sofia Coppola

It may seem strange to toy to start this article talking about Harris Savides, a guy that you may have never heard about and that —as far as we know— has nothing to do with the fashion world.

Harris hasn’t been involved in the creation of the Marni at H&M Collection; nor has he helped Consuelo Castiglioni design her patterns, which combine tribal prints and Bauhaus inspired designs; nor has he even collaborated in the choice of fabrics or accessory design.And it’s even possible that Harris has never sewn a button in his life.

Still, Harris plays a key role in launching the new H&M iconic collection, as head of photography for the advertising campaign directed by Sofia Coppola, with whom he worked on the set of  Somewhere. His impeccable mastery of light, along with the legendary Avalon by Roxy Music, make this small, glamorous young love story set in Marrakesh a delicate piece that you want to see and hear. It conveys perfectly the exoticism and elegance that define Marni’s collaboration with H&M.

With the image of David Beckham i his underwear still fresh in our minds after having been postered all over the city, it’s nice for H&M to be back to “normal”. Thank you, Sofia and Harris. We owe you one.
