Sónar arrives to its 24th edition with an intense week full of musical, cultural and technological activities, from Monday to Sunday. On Tuesday Arts Santa Mònica opened the “Lightforms / Soundforms” by Brian Eno exhibition, that sums up nearly 50 years of avant-garde work in fields such as light and sound. Today, at CCCB, opened another great showing, “Björk Digital”,  a multimedia trip across the universe of the Icelandic star.

“Lightforms / Soundforms”, part of Sónar+D, presents a wide selection of recent work by Brian Eno (many of them are in constant evolution since many years ago) with the intention of distancing itself from the concept of retrospective. The most important piece is the iconic “77 Million Paintings”, in the second level of the center. An audiovisual generative installation that the same Eno describe in the press conference as an “endless piece, although the project is completely finished”.

There’s also a new installation  “New Space Music”, ”the most complex of the generative musical pieces I’ve done”. The light paintings “Light Boxes” are situated in the first floor alongside a series of evolutive journals. “The annotations are from the mid 80s, when I became more involved in this work. Some pictures have more than 35 years”. The exhibition will be opened until the 10th of October.

The immersive exhibition “Björk Digital”, that will stay at CCCB until the 24th of September after traveling to Tokyo, Sydney, London or Los Angeles, has more of a retrospective, but in general it is inspired specially in the record the icelandic star published two years ago, “Vulnicura”. It’s an ambitious showing that sums up different art forms such as performance, cinema, installation, video and interaction with various audiovisual pieces produced with the latest technology in the field of VR. Many of her collaborators are featured here: Alexander Mcqueen, Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry, Jesse Kanda or Andrew Thomas Huang.

Based on the tracks of “Vulnicura”, the 90 minutes exhibition starts with “Black Lake”, an innovative video created in collaboration with MoMA New York, with panoramic images and a hi tech sound system created specially for the piece. From there, the next five pieces us VR and takes us from the Icelandic beaches to the interior of Björk’s mouth or the galaxy. Next is a revision of her album “Biophilia”, with a pedagogical space that uses the record’s instruments to explore the relationship between nature and technology. The last space presents her complete videography. 24 years of career sum up in nearly two hours of revealing images.
