The dukes of windsor’s extreme elegance
Ten of the Duke of Windsor's best suits on show in the multi-label boutique Santa Eulalia.
WE are the initials with which Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII had their letterheads stamped. Wallis, whose style is sober and elegant, and Edward, who is daring and innovative, have been and still are today the most controversial couple in British history.
As you well know, Edward VIII abdicated from the British throne in 1936 so that a year later he could marry Wallis in secret.
Regardless of the controversy that the relationship brought about in the British establishment of the time, the Dukes of Windsor were a fashion icon.
Wallis was one of the most photographed women in fashion magazines, while the Duke became the aristocratic dandy prototype.
Santa Eulalia, keen admirers of his unmistakable style, have got some of his suits on show until November 17th.
On show we can find the original Scottish kilt, which could be matched with a thousand different things, the suit he wore on his wedding day, the one he used to play golf and two blue tailcoats (which were blue since under electric lighting blue is blacker than black itself).
I won’t reveal any more details, I’d rather you discover them for yourself!
