Kisses for Lives

H&M launches its 5th Fashion Against AIDS collection to raise funds and raise awareness among young people about HIV/AIDS.

For several years now the Swedish brand H&M has been launching a collection whose aim is to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and raise funds for charitable projects. It seems that the world of fashion, thought to be cold and shallow, also has a little heart of its own and does not stand indifferent to social problems.

This year’s message could not have been more fitting. What is more universal, more powerful, than LOVE? H&M wants us to forget about taboos and kiss someone regardless of age, sex or the colour of our skin. Kiss, kiss and kiss again as a symbol of love—always safe love.

About the collection we can tell you that Fashion Against AIDS is a meeting point for ethnic influences from various continents. Colourful African trimmed jackets and bustiers, Maori graphic motifs in black and white leggings and tops, or Greenland Inuit folk designs on draped T-shirts. A fantastic mix of colors, prints and eye-catching authenticity created by a group of international artists and illustrators. Accessory-lovers also will have a smile on their face because the collection includes hats, shoes, jewelry, iPhone covers, ponchos and hammocks.

In short, H&M has created a collection that will donate 25% of total sales to various international projects to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS among young people. It also supports Designers Against AIDS, the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, the United Nations Population Fund and YouthAIDS, a group of international NGOs that raise awareness about safe sex.

To celebrate the launch, H&M has also organised a small party in the Fàbrica Moritz in Barcelona. There you can buy items from the collection and enjoy Gerard Estadella who will be providing the music and Mike Madrid, who will be encouraging people to kiss for charity.

To attend the party you need to have an invitation and be over 18. If you hurry you might be able to get some. H&M is giving them away in their shop in Portal de l’Àngel. If you can’t go there’s another option: you can go to the H&M campaign website and post a picture of your kiss that will join the nearly 9,000 already there. For every photo uploaded, H&M will donate $1 towards HIV/AIDS prevention.

There are no excuses left, get kissing!
