NUMBER 4. FASHION
Passeig de Gràcia is fashionable. No-one can deny that the good weather that has finally arrived is synonymous with strolls, toning up for the summer, miniskirts, shorts, terraces… Our street turned into a first-class catwalk.
We are excited to see how many
businesses and institutions in Passeig de Gràcia have been supporting us more and more. As a result of one of our collaborations, two of the most representative examples of Barcelona DNA, the
Hotel Omm and
Santa Eulalia, have been featured for the first time in one of our editorial articles:
Lost Generation. Inspired by the wonderful and controversial generation of American writers who used to live in hotels around Europe, Alessia Laudoni brings us men’s collections selected by Andreu March.
John Dos Passos, Ezra Pound, Erskine Caldwell, William Faulkner, Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck and F. Scott Fitzgerald lived far from the broken America before and after The Great Crash of 29. The big banks were failing due to fraud committed by bankers like Rockefeller and the Rothschild family. A time closely related to the one we are now facing. Little has changed since then in the global order, not to mention the critical situation that we have been taken to by the extravagance and irresponsibility of some who, just like those
movie gangsters, run amok embezzling and defrauding whilst governments look away and are content with stepping out of the picture. But not all hope is lost: as Einstein would say,
“In times of crisis, only imagination is more important than knowledge” and that is what we have plenty of in Barcelona.
If you’re looking for inspiration, ideas or simply to forget about the world for a while, we suggest you take a trip to the
Mossèn Costa Llobera Gardens, one of Barcelona’s lesser known beauty spots. That is where we have chosen to go to show off an eclectic selection of
contemporary women’s fashion, there where the sky joins up with the earth, somewhere
Beyond the Black Horizon. If you have not been there yet and you want to enjoy some stunning views of Barelona, don’t hesitate! Our collaborators eskenaziencursiva have really taken to the prickly settings and the magical mountain and have produced a most intriguing organic selection.
Organic and unique, that is without a doubt what Gaudí’s spectacular work can be defined as. He has managed to escape the evils of time and attract hundreds of tourists to Barcelona who can’t wait but take photos of themselves next to the mesmerising buildings full of fantasy that he built. Coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the Casa Batlló opening up to the public, we wanted to take a trip back in time and find out more about its award-winning history.
And speaking of awards, we are very proud of the amount of praise and recognition that our magazine—your magazine, in fact— is getting in the first year of life. We started with the technical cssdesignawards, and followed on 25 May in Helsinki collecting the bronze European Design Awards, an award granted by the association of design magazines and European trends. But that’s not it yet! On 5 July we will find out the Laus winners during the Barcelona Design Festival. So far we have been given a bronze award for our Extra! Extra! event and Passeig de Gràcia magazine could be the proud winner of a gold award. Thank you very much everyone, we hope to celebrate it with you shortly. I promise!
