A Second Look

Painter and illustrator Leonard Beard presents a selection of drawings he made for opinion articles published in El Periódico de Catalunya.

Probably quite a few of you have seen works by Leonard Beard without even knowing it. He’s an English painter and illustrator of Catalan and Mediterranean spirit who has lived in Vilanant for most of his life contributing regularly to El Periódico de Catalunya.

Beard started creating works of art in 1980 and just a few years later they were on show in galleries from Barcelona and Catalonia. His expressive power is implicit in the exhibition’s name “Una segunda mirada. Leonard Beard” [A second look, Leonard Beard]. It invites us to take a second look at his work by taking his illustrations out of context and turning them into little works of art.

The exhibition can be visited until November 24 at the Sala Vinçon. It presents a selection of illustrations for opinion articles published in the Catalan newspaper El Periódico during the last few years. Each drawing is presented alongside a copy of the original newspaper page where it was published and with the original article. The illustrations accompany articles by leading figures from the political, cultural, and economic life of our country.
