Pilarín: 50 years of Drawing Smiles for Children
The exhibition takes a look through the work and career of an illustrator who has won the affection and admiration of generations of children in Catalonia.
If I were to say Pilarín, I’m sure many unforgettable illustrations drawn by this great Catalan artist would appear in the minds of many a people in Catalonia.
There isn’t a single chile here that hasn’t grown up with Pilarín’s drawings, characters and stories: El Zoo d’en Pitus, En Patufet, La familia Kouamé, L’espardenyeta… Her never-ending work is spectacular and it has managed to captivate children of all ages.
To mark the 50th year since Pilarín started drawing and the 70th since her birth in the city of Vic, there will be a whole list of activities planned designed to let people know about the life and works of this loveable artist.
I recommend that you see Pilarín, 50 Years Drawing for Everyone at the Palau Robert. The exhibition takes us through Pilarín’s life and works: eleven sections and characters that represent universal concepts such as beauty, culture, tradition or fun will be our stepping stones along the journey.
Pilarín has also combined her work with an active social and political commitment to recovering the Catalan language and culture. A commitment that has merited her the main award from the Catalan government, the Saint George’s Cross, as well as the Serra d’Or Prize.
Even though Pilarín Bayés is now 70 years old, she continues to work with the same passion and enthusiasm as ever. Maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to be reminded of those times when a simple drawing could magically makes us happy.
