Furniture by the Eames
Coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ray Eames, the Sala Vinçon brings us closer to the work of this iconic couple of American designers.
Charles and Ray Eames were a couple of prolific designers who played an important role in opening new horizons and perspectives in furniture design.
They started collaborating in 1940, uniting their personalities, talents and abilities which complemented each other perfectly well. Forty years later they left an extraordinary legacy that included numerous furniture designs such as the Plywood and Fonda chairs, the Eames Lounge or the Aluminium Group among many others. They also designed important buildings, set up exhibitions, took photos and made films, toys, graphic designs, textile designs.
The Furniture of Eames can be seen at the Sala Vinçon until 7 July. It showcases the couple’s designs arranged in seven thematic blocks according to the materials used: wood, plywood, plastic, wire and aluminium. The designs include a description that lets you see all the elements that make up each piece and the particulars of its construction.
The work of the Eames’, which fundamentally influenced our conception of design, is still alive today and has the same relevance in today’s world as it did during the time of its creation.
