Francesc Català-Roca in La Pedrera
The Caixa Catalunya's Social Work offers a new approach to the work of photographer Francesc Català-Roca, who renewed the Spanish photography by 1950.
Long before the advent of digital photography, of camera phones or of Instagram, photographer Francesc Català Roca (Valls, 1922 – Barcelona, ??1998) established in Spain the rules of photography “of all in the day’s work.” His style, half-way between the custom and the news report, renewed the Spanish photographic panorama of the 50 and exalted him as one of the biggest of European contemporary photography.
The Caixa Catalunya’s Social Work offers us a tour of his black and white snapshots, some of which have become part of our historical memory. The exhibition includes documentary photography from the 50 and 60 as architectural photography, his less known facet.
