The Legacy of J.A. Coderch
Minim Barcelona concept store hosts the exhibition until January 30 with unpublished documents of the architect last and undone project.
In a city that’s as obsessed with architecture as Barcelona, it’s surprising how little fuss is made over the work of Jose Antonio Coderch. Considered by some as ‘Spain’s answer to Mies Van der Rohe’ his subtly subversive apartment blocks remain some of the most striking and beautiful buildings of the period. A new exhibition organised by the shop Minim brings to light his final, unrealized project: A design for an apartment which would grow and evolve along with the families it housed.
Completed 7 months before his death in 1984 but never realized, the exhibition includes most of the original blueprints, as well as a full scale reproduction of one of his most iconic designs, the Disa Lamp.
