Ancient Egyptians Were Vain
The exhibition Fashion and beauty in ancient Egypt shows just how refined and tasteful this incredible ancient civilisation was.
Anyone who has seen the film Cleopatra can get an idea of ??how extravagant Egyptian fashion was. We should take the film with a pinch of salt —always a must with Hollywood productions—, but the reality is that Egyptians were rather vain and they paid a lot of attention to their appearance: it always had to be perfect.
Clothing, jewelry, tattoos, perfumes, beauty, accessories: ancient Egyptians planned every little detail. They worshipped the body so much that many kept it completely hairless.
All this and many other details is what we will learn about in the exhibition Moda i bellesa a l’antic Egipte [Fashion and Beauty in Ancient Egypt], a journey through 3,000 years of fashion history in Egypt and a tribute to the aesthetics and refined taste of its inhabitants.
The exhibition, which will remain open until July 20th, consists of various objects from the permanent collection of the Egyptian Museum of Barcelona and important contributions from international museums such as the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, the Museo Civico Archeologico in Bologna, the Museo Egizio in Firenze, the Museo delle Antichità Egizie in Torino (which has contributed some unpublished pieces), and the Biblioteca Museu Víctor Balaguer.
