1870-2011: ADVERTISING AT THE PUBLIC TRANSPORT

L’Espai Mercè Galleryof TMB offers a photographic route on the evolution of advertising in the public transports of Barcelona, since the operation of the first line of tram, about 1872, until our days.

The relation between advertising and the public transports of Barcelona is not a question of two days ago. Trademarks and advertisers made use of them as advertising support since its apparition in the last quarter of 19th century.

The exhibition “1870-2011: Advertising at the public transport” invites us to do a double route on the evolution of the advertising and on the history of urban public transport through a selection of images of the archive of TMB. From the first line of tram until the new ecological buses, going through the tube, the trolley bus or the mythical buses of two flats all have carried advertising between its travelers.

Between the most remarkable curiosities of the exhibition is the possibility to see images of the station “ghost” of Posts, closed on 20 March 1972, where still are preserved the posters and advertisements of the time.
