This Christmas’ best present

Barcelona opened in Plaça Catalunya an ice rink with a single aim: to get 100,000 people skating and enjoying themselves.

Christmas is here! Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock, jingle bells jingle bells ring and swing… Okay, okay, I know not everyone likes Christmas carols or even singing at all. But Christmas is a special time of the year, isn’t it?

Barcelona also pretties itself up around this time of year. Lights, shop windows at their best, wrapping paper, coloured ribbons… and best of all, an ice rink! It was of course about time that everybody in Barcelona could enjoy something like that. Finally my friends from London will stop asking, “Oh, but … you don’t have any ice rinks at Christmas?”. Well yes! Yes we do!

Since Saturday December 3rd, Barcelona has got an ice rink that is—wait for it—even bigger than the famous Rockefeller Plaza rink in New York! (Bye bye New Yorkers! We’ll be watching from the rear-view mirror!). Maybe we’re a little late, but when we do arrive, we arrive with a bang.

The rink is 1,200 square meters and holds a maximum of 300–350 skaters and is located in Plaça Catalunya. It will be open until January 8th. The space also has a dressing area and a cafeteria where you can try some good churros with hot chocolate while enjoying the wintery surroundings.

Watch out where you shop because more than 10,000 shops in Barcelona that are part of Barcelona Comerç are offering discounts to customers so that they can go skating in the rink. There’s nothing more we could want!

See you at the rink!
