The New York Times Magazine: Photographs
The American magazine, an unquestionable reference point in contemporary photography, is the centre of the Palau Robert's new exhibition.
From September 28 to December 2, 2012 the Palau Robert in Barcelona will hold the exhibition “The New York Times Magazine. Photographs”. It reflects on the nature of photography and the role of print magazines at a time when printed editions are reclaiming their importance faced with the expansion of all things digital.
The exhibition focuses on The New York Times Magazine as an unquestionable reference point in contemporary photography, a space of freedom for photographers. For over thirty years, the publication has explored all the possibilities and uses for photography. Through its commissions, the magazine has released work by some of the most outstanding photographers and has covered all photographic disciplines: photojournalism, fashion photography, portraiture and conceptual photography.
Visitors at the Palau Robert are invited to enjoy more than 130 works by 35 renowned artists, which include Chuck Close, Jeff Koons, Annie Leibovitz and Sebastião Salgado. In addition, Kathy Ryan, photo editor of the Sunday magazine supplement and curator of the exhibition, offers a unique opportunity to meet the creative processes behind the magazine: contact sheets, snapshots, videos, the editor’s personal correspondence, tear sheets and original magazines.
