We all know that ‘independent’ is a word that with a magnet attached to its final ‘t’. Its a word that when spoken makes you look up and listen closely: you know that something interesting is coming. Synonymous with innovation and risk-taking, it is a pleasure to see this extraordinary word crop up constantly in the streets of Barcelona.

This time it is l’Alternativa, the 18th Barcelona Independent Film Festival, ?once again in support of anything and everything independent, a different look on art films, reasoned thought and creative independence.

This edition will feature a total of 46 films competing against one another. They are divided into three Official Sections (Fiction Feature Films, Nonfiction Feature Films and Short Films). The Festival also includes several Parallel Sections, the Hall Screen, Film Schools of the World and Parallel Activities. A long list of suggestions, activities and workshops that promise to satisfy our love for cinema, no doubt about it.

The opening will take place on Friday November 11th at 21:00 in the Hall in the CCCB, although we will be able to enjoy the festival until Saturday December 19th in different venues around the city.
