THE 16th INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FOR NEW ROSES ARRIVES TO BARCELONA

Cervantes Park will host the event, which coincides with the first bloom of roses.

Cervantes Park hosts from 13 to 15 May, the 16th edition of the International Competition of New Roses which coincides with the first bloom of roses. An event aimed at breeders and growers of new species of roses. At the same time, takes place a programme of activities aimed at all audiences, with demonstrations of floral art, gastronomy or a concert of music by the local band of Barcelona.

It allows to know the developments in the sector while it brings together the most prestigious international experts in roses. A reserved space of these gardens brings the rose garden awarded in each edition of the competition, which has a great international recognition.

The roses presented in competition have been created by breeders from crosses between already existing roses, which need about ten years of work before they can present it. They are unpublished varieties which have not been sold yet.

The contest is organized by Ajuntament de Barcelona and has sponsored by companies and organizations of the sector. It was created in 2001 to promote the dissemination and projection of the rose garden, faithful to the tradition dating from the first decades of the last century.
