The Kandinsky Prize, created in 2007, is considered one of the biggest national awards for contemporary art in Russia and has become a symbol of the most significant innovation trends and perspectives on art.

Thanks to the prize and the support is gives to exhibitions held abroad, all of us here in Barcelona now have the opportunity to visit the exhibition “In an Absolute Disorder. Contemporary Russian Art. The Kandinsky Prize (2007–2012)“. It includes the works of some of the best and most important contemporary Russian artists, selected among the nominees of its five editions.

The exhibition focuses on chaos and on disorder as a way to foster creativity. “It is the search for order through disorder. It shows the turmoil of recent years of political, social and cultural life in Russia” explained Vincente Altaió, director of Arts Santa Monica, where we will be able to visit the exhibition until 29 September.

“In an Absolute Disorder” takes over all floors of the old convent that houses Arts Santa Mònica and is divided into four main themes:

—Dimitri Prigov, the last conceptualist.
—Material Chaos. The aesthetics of “bad” things, or contextualist art.
—Social disorder. Tyrannicidal performance and art-reportage.
—The collapse of the church’s canonical symbolic systems.

The exhibition has already achieved great success in its travel through Riga, Berlin and London. Now it is Barcelona’s turn. Do you want to come?
